Mayor announces new Wingecarribee General ManagerLast modified: October 7, 2009 - 7:35 AM
Jason Gordon, the current Director of City Services at Coffs Harbour City Council, has been unanimously chosen as the new General Manager of Wingecarribee Shire Council. Mr.Gordon is 36 and will begin at Moss Vale in early December. Announcing the appointment today, Wingecarribee Mayor Duncan Gair said that all of the councillors were impressed with the calibre of each of the six short-listed applicants from New South Wales and interstate, but were unanimous in their selection of Mr Gordon, after a rigorous interview process that involved all nine councillors from 8.30am to 6pm. "Jason is civil engineer by profession, but also holds Masters qualifications in Business Administration and Commercial Law, and has had an impressive career in local government stretching back to 1991 when he was appointed as an engineer at Bourke Shire Council." Mr. Gordon said he is looking forward to working in Wingecarribee Shire. "I am excited at the prospect of leading the council and being part of the Wingecarribee community," he said from Fiji today, where he is having a short break with his family before returning to Australia on Thursday. "I am keen to live with my family in the community where I work and strive to be able to make a difference to that community through my work and personal contributions." Before moving to Coffs Harbour, Mr.Gordon was the Director of Engineering and Technical Services at Cabonne Council, CEO of the business arm of Tumut Council from 2002-2005, manager of Works at Tumut from 1999 to 2002 and before that in his hometown Bourke as an engineer from 1991 to 1999. He attended Bourke High School where he was Dux of year 12 and School President. His interests include football, golf, tennis and lawn bowls. He is a keen gardener and family man.
